The discipline of Economics has traditionally assumed that there is a distinction between products and services. This convention can be traced back to Adam Smith’s landmark work, ‘The Wealth of Nations’. Interestingly, however, the division between products and services is not as stark as you might initially imagine. Indeed a debate has raged in the literature about how they might be differentiated.
